Kuba - Une |

| My Kuba series paintings are inspired by the bold, abstract
geometries and rich textures of hand-woven raffia cloth from the Kuba people
of the Congo. The cloth is woven of fibers from raffia-palm leaves. Left
in its natural color or dyed with organic red, brown and ochre dyes, it
is sewn into applique and reverse-applique treatments. Production of these
textiles is a multiple stage process which involves the participation of
children, men and women of the same clan, which is another reason the cloth
has attraction for me. |
