Finding the image during research for another project, I was struck by the desolation in the faces of these young boys. Taken in 1911, the photo depicts the labor force from a coal mine clearly, from the filth on their faces, just finishing a shift.
No child should have his life stolen from him like this and I felt a compelling need to memorialize the image in a personal way.
